Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe and the European Union (EU) are set to hold a landmark inaugural business forum next month aimed at promoting trade and investment between the two.
Over 250 industry leaders and stakeholders will attend the meeting, which is expected to enable connections and partnerships to be established between businesses.
In a statement, the EU said Zimbabwe was strategically placed in the sub-region, which enabled access to bigger regional markets for EU businesses.
“The EU-Zimbabwe Business Forum is an inaugural event that seeks to promote trade and investment between the EU and Zimbabwe, within the framework of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the Global Gateway respectively,” it said.
The three-day event will target key sectors driving Zimbabwe’s economic growth such as horticulture and agro-processing, renewable energy, and the mining value chain with cross-cutting topics including financial services and transport and logistics.
The EU noted that Zimbabwe was strategically located in Southern Africa, with access to a large and growing regional market within the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Common Markets for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and contributing significantly to regional trade and connectivity.
The forum is scheduled to take place between 20 and 22 May, and structured into the main conference, and sector-specific sessions on horticulture, renewable energy and mining value chain as well as EU company exhibitions on the first day, whilst the second day will consist of sector specific sessions on access to funding, transport and logistics, Business to Business (B2Bs) and Business to Government (B2Gs) meetings and networking reception with policy-makers, business regulators, sector representatives.
“To ensure broader accessibility, a complimentary live-stream option will also be available, enabling a wider audience to engage and benefit from the event’s insights and opportunities,” the EU said.
