Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe continues to strengthen relations with other countries in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region with the country recently convening Bi-National Commissions with Mozambique and Zambia.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere noted that President Hakainde Hichilema came to Zimbabwe for the inaugural Bi-National Commission mid-last month while President Emmerson Mnangagwa travelled to Mozambique a week later to attend a similar meeting.
“Cabinet considered and noted the report on the Inaugural Bi-National Commission (BNC) between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Zambia. The inaugural Bi-National Commission between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Zambia convened on 14 November 2025 and was co-chaired by President Mnangagwa and his counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia,” he said.
“The two countries agreed on several areas and signed five Memoranda of Understanding in the areas of diplomatic training, immigration and technical cooperation, labour and employment, agriculture and youth development. Zimbabwe expressed gratitude to Zambia for its continued support in the anti-sanctions crusade,” he added.
Commenting on President Mnangagwa’s similar visit to Mozambique towards the end of last month, Dr Muswere said Cabinet had been briefed that it resulted in the convening of the inaugural session of the Zimbabwe-Mozambique Bi-National Commission.
“The two countries will also cooperate in war veterans’ affairs, which will culminate in the rehabilitation and maintenance of liberation war shrines, museums, and monuments for the preservation of the liberation history and heritage,” he said.
Dr Muswere said following the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with the two countries, the One-Stop Border Posts at Forbes-Machipanda and Nyamapanda-Cuchamano are expected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
“The Bi-National Commission directed the removal of all barriers to the movement of people, goods, services, and all Tariffs and Non-Tariff Barriers to trade under the SADC and African Continental Free Trade Area frameworks. Three Memoranda of Understanding on Women Empowerment and Gender Equality, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Youth Development were also signed during the Bi-National Commission,” he added.
