Harare, (New Ziana) -The Zimbabwe Under-19 cricket team on Thursday secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over Ireland at the Harare Sports Club, taking a 1-0 lead in their five-match Youth One-Day International (YODI) series.
According to The Zimbabwe Cricket, Ireland, batting first, posted a total of 236 all out in 47.4 overs.
Freddie Ogilby was the standout performer for the visitors, scoring a solid 69 runs.
However, Zimbabwe’s bowlers made crucial breakthroughs, with Panashe Mazai leading the charge with figures of 3/29. Febin Manoj also contributed with the ball, taking 2/37.
In response, Zimbabwe Under-19 chased down the target in 45 overs, finishing at 237/6.
The chase was anchored by Brandon Ndiweni, who made 48 runs, while the team benefited from key contributions throughout the innings.
Zimbabwe held their nerve in the closing stages, securing the win with four wickets to spare and giving it a 1-0 advantage in the series, with the next match set to take place soon at the same venue.
