IN a bid to sustain a credible revenue administration the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority
(ZIMRA) has declared that its anti-corruption and integrity stance is non-negotiable.
The revenue authority has put in place measures to help curb corrupt activities within its
organisation and stakeholders with one being the #I am for zero campaign.
In a speech read on her behalf during the engagement with the media in Masvingo recently
Commissioner General, Regina Chinamasa, urged the media to condemn, highlight and write
about corruption.
“Currently, ZIMRA has over 3 000 members of staff drawn from all the provinces, making us
one of the leading employers in the country. Our integrity and anti-corruption stance is non-
negotiable as we thrive to sustain our standing as a credible revenue administration. Sadly,
over the years ZIMRA had to part ways with some of the members of staff whose behaviours
were not consistent with our ethics and values.
“We are in the process of rolling out a culture change programme across the authority and our
pledge is to live our values of transparency, commitment, innovativeness, fairness and
integrity.”
The organisation has embarked on lifestyle audits and asset declarations as a way to weed out
corrupt elements with a cumulative number of the ZIMRA employees prosecuted produced at
a different meeting being 75 from 2018-2021 while the number of stakeholders prosecuted
was 34 for the same period.
“Corruption is one of the biggest non-tariff barriers that makes our products less competitive
on the international market and erodes investor confidence. My organisation has put in place
several measures to fight corruption which include the whistle blower facility, anti-corruption
hotline, as well as disciplining members of staff in accordance with the laws of the land and
the authority’s code of conduct,” she said.
Meanwhile, she said that the authority is set to sustain collaborations with the media to
enhance revenue generation and to curb corruption.
“Building and fostering partnerships with our clients and important stakeholders, like the
media fraternity, is one thing we will not take for granted, since the achievement of our
mandate is anchored on strong client and stakeholder engagement.
“We will collectively endeavour to build and sustain linkages and collaborations with the
media fraternity, to enhance synergies among players in revenue generation and trade
facilitation.”
