A 15-year-old boy committed suicide after conniving with his 12- year-old girlfriend to fake a pregnancy so that she could elope.
According to Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha, Mashonaland Central ZRP spokesperson, on an unknown date in September 2022 accused proposed love to a 12-year-old girl.
They reportedly had sexual intercourse twice during their love affair.
The boy connived with the girl to tell her parents that she was pregnant so that she could elope with him.
The 12-year-old told her mother, aged 32, that she was pregnant by the boy.
The mother then took the girl to the boy’s homestead to confirm if the juvenile was telling the truth.
The father of the 15-year-old boy questioned his son, whether what the girl had said was true.
During the interrogation, the boy went to his room. It was while he was there that he took and swallowed unidentified tablets.
He was rushed to Bindura General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 12-year-old girl in turn ran away from her parents. She was only found on 19 October 2022 after a report was made at Chiwaridzo Police Station.
Deputy Provincial Police spokesperson, Samuel Chikasha, urged parents to have a close relationship with their children.
“Parents are encouraged to maintain a close relationship with their children. They should listen to problems facing their children and seek counselling”.
