Harare, (New Ziana) — Police on Monday appealed for information from the public to assist investigations into two separate fatal hit-and-run road traffic accidents in Harare, and also reported drowning incidents involving juveniles and arrest of suspected drug traffickers in Beitbridge.
National police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi said in one of the hit-and-run accidents, a 39-year-old man died on the spot after being struck by an unknown motorist along Dieppe Road near the Sorting Office roundabout in Harare on 13 December 2025 at around 8:45pm.
The driver allegedly failed to stop after the accident. Police recovered the front bumper of the vehicle at the scene, but it did not have a registration plate.
In a related case, he said a yet-to-be-identified man, believed to be approximately 30 years old, succumbed to injuries while admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
The victim, said Nythi, had been hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser near the Goodhope turn-off, Globetrotter, along Old Mazowe Road on 11 December 2025 at around 9:00pm.
The motorist also fled the scene without rendering assistance, he said.
Nyathi is urging anyone with information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the motorists involved to report at the nearest police station.
He also reported a tragic drowning incident in Greendale, Harare, where two juveniles aged 13 and 11 lost their lives while swimming in a pool at a house along Cleverland Road on 13 December 2025.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post-mortem examinations.
In a separate development, police deployed under Operation “No to Cross Border Crimes” in Beitbridge arrested three suspects in connection with unlawful possession of drugs.
The suspects, Leonard Windo Mahoko (48), Benjamin Kwatapu (26) and Kelvin Chalos (29) — were arrested at Bubi Village on 13 December 2025 following a tip-off.
Police recovered 24 kilogrammes of dagga and 165 bottles of Bronclear cough syrup, each measuring 100 millilitres, from the suspects. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Nyathi reiterated the police call to call to members of the public to exercise caution, particularly during the festive season, and to promptly report criminal activity or suspicious behaviour to law enforcement agents.
