POLICE are investigating a case of sudden death by trapping, which occurred at Besta Mine
in Shamva on Monday last week in which Henry Thabani Chitova (30) of Shamva was
trapped and died while working in a mine shaft.
The ZRP acting provincial spokesperson for Mashonaland Central, Sergeant Major Samuel
Chikasha, confirmed that Chitova was in the company of Edmore Chindenga, when mud
collapsed and trapped him to death.
Chindenga escaped and rushed out of the mine shaft and called for assistance. Other miners
were able to retrieve Chitova’s body.
The body was conveyed to Shamva District Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
“As the police we are urging miners to prioritise mine safety in all their operations to avoid
loss of lives through unsafe workings,” Chikasha said.
