CHIPINGE-The Chipinge US $1.9 million water works on tank rehabilitation have
been completed ensuring constant supply of clean running water to residents of the
town.
The local authority said the rehabilitation of its water tanks had been completed
with the laying of 500mm pipes now at an advanced stage.
Outgoing council chairman Lovemore Mukwapati said the three tanks and one
booster station were ready to receive water, a development which he said will
curtail the 1.5 mega litre short supply of water in the town.
“Part of the water system rehabilitation project has been finished following the
completion of three water tanks and one booster station as final touches are being
made on the laying out of 500mm water pipes. This system upgrade will benefit
about 35 000 residents in Chipinge town,” said Mukwapati.
The rehabilitation of the water tanks were part of the bigger mission of Chipinge
Town Council to upgrade the Bangazani Water System which involves replacing
of water pipes, pressure reducing valves, and the replacement of water pumps at
the dam to increase water supply to meet the town’s demand.
The water infrastructure in the small farming town was failing to adequately meet
the town’s water demands as these were put in place for a smaller population.
Chipinge Town requires 9 mega litres of water daily but had perennial water
challenges such that high density areas would go for days without tap water.
The rehabilitation project is set to benefit areas including Gaza E, ZBS, Medium
and low-density areas, and the town area.
