Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has issued a public alert following reports of individuals masquerading as its officials along the country’s major highways.
In a statement, Commissioner Kindness Paradza said the impostors are allegedly conducting bogus anti-smuggling operations and extorting money from unsuspecting motorists and traders.
“It has come to the attention of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) that there are individuals posing as officials from the Commission along the country’s major highways, claiming to be enforcing an anti-smuggling operation. The Commission is not involved in any operation of this nature,” said Paradza.
He emphasized that the anti-graft body was not currently involved in any roadside anti-smuggling campaign and disassociated ZACC from the illegal activities being perpetrated in its name.
Paradza said the individuals are not only acting illegally, but are fleecing Zimbabweans of their hard-earned cash through extortion.
He said such actions are tarnishing the reputation of legitimate law enforcement agencies and undermining public trust.
“These impostors are not only acting illegally but are also fleecing Zimbabweans of their hard-earned cash through extortion and tarnishing the reputation of legitimate law enforcement agencies. ZACC warns these individuals to cease these activities immediately,” said Paradza.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and implored members of the public to demand proper identification from anyone claiming to be a ZACC official.
Paradza advised those who may have encountered these impostors to come forward with information that could aid ongoing investigations.
This incident comes amid increasing efforts by the government to combat corruption and restore public confidence in national institutions.
