Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Monday recorded its highest Covid-19 death count in a single day since the pandemic started in March last year after 70 people succumbed to the disease, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

The country also recorded 326 new cases.

The latest figures take the tally of deaths and cases of infection recorded since March last year to 1 075 and 31 646 respectively.

A total of 627 recoveries were recorded, pushing the overall national recovery rate to 72.3 percent.

“As of 24 January 2021, at 15:00, there were 255 hospitalised cases, 163 mild to moderate, 74 severe and 18 in the intensive care units,” the Health Ministry said.

Zimbabwe introduced a level 4 lockdown on January 2 this year, which greatly curtails citizens movement, after cases of infections started rising sharply following a lull the previous months.
